How Autism Affects Me: A Student's Perspective

"I have autism.  Autism affects my brain and how I see the world. I see things totally differently from Neurotypical people.  For example, when someone else sees a serious situation, through my eyes the same situation seems hilarious. I make comments that are inappropriate to the situation. When it comes to interacting with other people I can really struggle.  Sometimes it feels like people are staring at me.  I am scared to make new friends friends and I am afraid they won’t like me or we won’t have anything in common. I try to fit in so much that I am willing to do bad things to get others to like me. I worry about what people not liking me, so I usually keep to myself. In conclusion, Autism affects my perspective of the world and how I interact with it."
